In other news, I've started the massive reconstruction of my story, "Shock".

Let me start out by saying, this is no easy task. For one thing, I have to make it longer. I hope to do this by diving into Vin's character more, and making him more realistic and accessible to the reader. After all, we aren't all gay Issaquah men, no matter how much we all wish we were.

And actually that's another thing I need to fix: I need to convince the reader that making the main character gay actually serves a purpose and isn't some wacky gimmick that I added to make fun of homosexuals myself. Don't get me wrong; I 'm not gay, as I've previously stated, and any rumors of me proposing to Docta Jim on top of the spire on the space needle are greatly fabricated, as are any satellite images that exist of the alleged event. Nevertheless, as I have repeatedly asserted, making the main character gay served two purposes:

  1. It's unique. Out of all the stories that I've read, only about a tenth have involved homosexuality, and aside from "Shock", none made it blatantly apparent.
  2. It gives the main character a perfect reason to be angry. After all, discrimination against people based upon sexual orientation is all too common, even in supposedly left-wing areas of the country, such as the city of Issaquah, although this trend discontinues as one ventures east.
*DISCLAIMER:
>Docta Haus is not implying that Issaquah is a hick town by any means.
>Nor is he implying that this is a picture of a limousine parked outside of Mount Si High School:

It is my job as the author to get this message across to my readers more effectively and efficiently. I hope that over the next few days I can make my story far better and much longer than it is now.

Regards,

The Docta

HSP Memo: 1-09-11

*DISCLAIMER:
>Rest assured, the reason that Docta Haus generally refrains from commenting in class is in no way due to a hatred of his classmates or of the stories themselves, nor is he using the time to plan the perfect murder of the candidates from the Hawaiian National Socialist Soirée. Namely, Docta Haus finds it impossible to comment when everyone else beats him to it all the time.
>Also, Docta Haus is a lazy Jew.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have finally decided which stories to do for my Hu Du U Luv speech! John Cheever is a fantastic author, and most certainly is not intimately involved with my campaign in any way.

With that in mind, here are my decisions:

"The Swimmer" is a classic, and one of my favorite childhood stories. If I had ever taken a writing class in high school in which I read a bunch of short stories in class, this would definitely be my favorite.

Second, "Goodbye, My Brother" deals with familial relationships and character interplay characteristic of Cheever's work, which I also enjoy.

Finally, I have chosen "The Enormous Radio", which, surprisingly, is about an enormous radio.

I look forward to awkwardly throwing these stories together into some sort of coherent project the night before it's due!
